It was a light green dress with white lace. It made a sound when I walked and when I sat down. Kind of like the fancy dresses worn by the women from the 1960s popular TV series Bonanza. I had the kind of figure that got me into trouble. We were all so pretty. The picture included here is with my best friends Sue and Karen. We graduated 1976 the year of the Bicentennial. Our class song was Changes by David Bowie; remnants of the Glitter scene that we were not part of. At the time, I did not have a clue that one of my all-time favorite punk bands, The Saints, just released their first LP (I’m) Stranded. This was the first punk LP I purchased in the San Fernando Valley around 77-78 from a used records slot.
Mom went with me to get the dress. The clothing store was a small dress-store near Sherman Way and Owensmouth, A rare mother and daughter time. Yet, now when I think of the dress I wonder if that girl is really me. Maybe, as in the film Blade Runner…I am just a replicant. The girl in the picture may not be real?
