Hubba-hubba

ssToday was the day of the word hub. I define hub as a center of activity or interest; a focal point. Last night is when the word really started. A friend showed us a picture of the hub where he works. He used the word hub. I was interested in the word instantly. I have not heard it for some time but there was a little excitement in the word as he said it.

Anyway the word hub made an impression on me.

Today the word came up many times while I was reading. I will focus on three of the most interesting places the word hub emerged into my consciousness.  We call them aha moments.

I was sitting on a chair at the local Jr. College waiting for my son’s class to end. Enjoying the time near a tree I was studying my book  Jung, Synchronicity, and Human Destiny by IRA Progoff. I was intensely focused when that word popped up. I thought that was an odd word for this writer to use, this book having a copyright from Delta Books 1973.

The specific role of the archetypes in synchronistic phenomena seems to be to serve as the constellating hub of a situation across time, and to be the factor of inner orderedness that gives the distinctive set to the situation. ~ Pg. 135

Later in the day it was rather off time to be reading the Los Angeles Times but the day was running slow. My kids were playing games and Mr. Husband was hogging the computer so I turned to some news for no reason.  I read an article about the unveiling of the new park Grand Park of L.A.

To city leaders Grand Park provides this new community with much-needed open space, a respite from the grid of city life as well as a hub for community events.

Front Page Los Angeles Times, Grand Green Dream, Paragraph four.

Then believe it or not about three hours later I almost tossed the paper in the trash when by chance while separating the advertisements from the rest of the paper the LATEXTRA fell down on the couch. This tends to be my favorite part of the paper so I sat down to read it. I was totally amused when I caught sight of the article on page AA 3, Condom Measure Put On Ballot. I had to laugh when I read what Supervisor Gloria Molina said on the subject of condoms and pornography which was next to the last paragraph of this article,

It doesn’t apply to the San Fernando Valley, which I understand is the hub of where these films are made

I am now taking a breath and realizing that within the hub of understanding this word hub  I was in fact in the process of a synchronistic phenomena experiencing a hub of a word across time..

Seriously how wild is that?

(August 19th 2012… my sister told me that our Grandmother on the paternal side use to hold  her arms and hands up in the air and say “Hubba-Hubba”… and so this synchronistic phenomena has its charm )

The symbol of Praying Mantis when having sex is not what you may think!!

Crone Mantis Watercolor By Hudley

The Minoans were “synthetic” in their thinking; that is, they focused on the interrelatedness of experience, in contrast to the later development of the Aristotelian or analytic approach of distinguishing differences and separating elements as a way of knowledge.

Aguilar, A. Marina. Alchemy of The Heart: The Sacred Marriage of Dionysos & Ariadne. Chiron Publications. Kindle Edition.

People seem to focus on the probability of the female Praying Mantis biting off the head of her mate while engaged in sex. This may or may not be true. Does anyone go beyond this?

Picture by Cinnamon Muhlbauer in the Hollywood Hills. 9/22/2022

The real focus is on the sacrifice of the male. One male (or maybe more) one female then impregnation…then comes the egg sack. Glory be because then comes the next generation of thousands of perfect little baby Praying Mantis.

Why is it that no one talks about the Big Mama Praying Mantis dying after laying her ootheca? Statistically males that do not mate continue to go on to have a much longer lifespan then the female.

The reproductive cycle of the Praying Mantis is what it is, but it is not just the male that sacrifices his life… so does the female!!

In fact, they both do!!

Symbolically it is a ridiculously impressive analogy and the archetype of family.

In general, we do what we must to continue the life cycle. Luckily for human beings it is not as dramatic as in the life cycle of the Praying Mantis. I find it is best described from a Jungian perspective.

The magic causality or serendipity of Praying Mantis.

The Praying Mantis is a wondrous creature of nature and like nature is primal in understanding… if we choose to!

Conscience the blood of a living anarchist

I shall now be a little more free and open with you than I was before. I wish we were all true-hearted, and that we did all carry ourselves with integrity.

~ Thomas Rainsborough

Anarchy seems so often clothed in the rebellion and intellectual dress of its followers. When I was younger we had the familiar old image of the Dove sign of two fingers held-up and apart as the symbol of peace. In the punk rock years of the late seventies and early eighties  that symbol metamorphosed and became the “V” of  vice, vandalism and violence. I am sure from the outside this seemed radical and rebellious and it was,  but within my community of friends it stood for something more.  To me personally it stood for freedom from cultural and religious accountability, but not from what lived at the root of its meaning,

“all true-hearted, and that we did all carry ourselves with integrity.”

It was not laws and dogmas that guided us but a true creative spark to change what pissed us off.  It was the Governments that lied to us  and the  dogmatic churches that belittled and brainwashed us with visions of hell and damnation. The worst characters to this abomination of their creation being Saint Augustine and the first Christian king from Constantinople, Constantine the Great.

Putting the blame aside,  I  understand that culture and religion breeds morals and ethics. The most powerful being how we learn these ways of being as an oral tradition passed on from mother to child.  The ethics and morals of what is right and wrong nurtured  by love, and this is the best scenario which is based on the bond between family and loved ones. The goal is to break the bonds of family and so move out into the world as a whole individual filled with integrity.

The above quote from Thomas Rainsborogh’s mouth states clearly the knowing  experience of the true anarchy experience.  This is the freedom to make the best choice for all concerned.  This is not because we have to, or because of peer pressure. It is because we are true-hearted, and that we carry ourselves with integrity as a single individual , with or without government, but hopeful that others will follow on their own accord.

In Aurora, Colorado James E. Holmes killed and it is still a mystery why he killed. My focus is not on him. He is an insane young man who because of his lewdness reveals to us a darkness, a shadow that this country must now face. This is not Anarchy!  It is something else and it is as dark and opaque as the sucking under-world. Yet, within this tragedy and drama is the extreme anarchy of a few individuals that cared more for another than they did for themselves.

I am speaking of the ones that died that day to save another life. I am not a political fool for this country, it is nothing like that.  In the chaos of this a hope shines forth …can you see it? This hope best shows us what the anarchist experience looks like. This is defined as an act for another that is based on the statement,   true-hearted, and that we did all carry ourselves with integrity. I am not saying that one should die for anarchy or die for another to experience  this anarchy experience because it can be viewed and achieved in the smallest of choices or actions.  I am saying that my heart is honored to know that within humanity there are individuals that have a conscience and this is the blood of a true anarchist. In these dark times I am often in a daze of overwhelmedness, today I cried and my heart-felt freedom.

Hold up the beam of light called conscience, hold it up to the Big Wigs, the Corpocracy, the Illuminati,  Wall Street and the Federal Reserve… they don’t have a chance.

This is the blood of a living anarchist !!!

I shall now be a little more free.

Beer and Burlesque

Burlesque is a literary, dramatic or musical work intended to cause laughter by caricaturing the manner or spirit of serious works, or by ludicrous treatment of their subjects. The word derives from the Italian burlesco, which itself derives from the Italian burla – a joke, ridicule or mockery

Making lunch for my husband  and older son one summer day I announced,

“I want to take five weeks off and learn Burlesque !”

“All right , that would be great to get you out of here” said my son.

My husband was silent and seemed perplexed but calm.  I went on to tell them about a program in Seattle Washington that teaches Burlesque. It is for all ages. I began to tell the history of the Burlesque and about Vaudeville. We happened to be watching  Gypsy the 1962 musical. This film is  about the famous Burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee. They walked in on me and the film before lunch.

“I really don’t walk to hear this” said my son a couple of times.

So he went into the computer room to Skype out with his game-scary fiends.  I then continued to talk telling my husband that as an older woman of fifty-four I think it would be curious to get in touch with that fun and sexy side of myself again.

“Five weeks… is too long” he said.

I said with a convincing  voice and with great  concern,

“As a woman gets older she becomes invisible. She is not a maiden anymore and definitely not a grandmother-old-woman yet, and because I only have a wee bit of estrogen in my left toe, I think it would be fun to get those female juices going again?”

“But five weeks” he said again.

I then went on to tell him that after I learn the art of Burlesque  wouldn’t it be fun to open a small Burlesque house. We could have a bar that serves local micro brewery beers and maybe even food.

“Hell, we could have bands play and bring back Vaudeville. We could ask comedians and acts to perform as well!!” I yelled!

Then the twenty year old son yelled from the computer room,

“Why would you want to make a fool of yourself like that, you are insane, but getting you away from here for some time would be great.”

“Five weeks.. is a long time” said my husband for the third and last time.

Silence fell on the topic as my husband and I finished watching the film Gypsy. I then said with passion,

“Ya see it is fun and they just tease. These women are interesting  they are not slimy strippers that take all their clothes off  in a degrading way.  It is an art form… it is Burlesque. In a way it is making fun of all that in a creative way.”

The conversation stopped but I was still dreaming  and thinking how fun it could be. I then whispered with a giggle and sly grin,

“Beer and Burlesque sounds good  to me!!”

The happy introvert by Elizabeth Wagle

A Wild and crazy guide for celebrating your true self. I am glad I found this book. It affirms what I have always known, that I am an introvert. Yes, we are outnumbered by extroverts.  Artists and writers tend to be more inclined to go within for their enjoyment. I like staying at home and I am on the wild side, just like most domesticated cats. If you get the time please get this book because it is an informative and delightful read.  It takes all types to make up the world. The reason some people have parties for their birthdays with the whole zoo and those that don’t is OK.  Those of us that like the more private life do so happily…. and so it is..

Notes from the Book: Jung, Synchronicity and Human Destiny~The Archetype of the Magical Effect

Sunflower watercolor by Hudley

Reflective notes:

Archetype of the Magical Effect

Thus I  have found the diamond within this book by Ira Progoff.  Jung calls it the Archetype of the Magical Effect. To understand this concept one has to bring up the background of how it works. This is a beginning study of something that intuitively is part of us as human beings. Some are more awake to it than others. This is not a good or bad thing, a smarter or more gifted thing,  or anything like that.

It is based on curiosity and the desire to  focus on something that I find fascinating, and to explain feelings and ideals I could never quite grasp before.

I would like to start with what Carl Jung says about us as human beings. He says we have four levels.

1. Ego Consciousness which is at the surface.

2. The Personal unconscious which is just below this.

3. The Collective unconscious which extends for a great dept below this. It is called the transpersonal level.

4. The Base is called the Psychoid.  This is the level that is the very realm of nature itself

Next is the idea of self. Jung calls this the self r and the self R.

The Self r is the ground of human reality. The basis for all the phenomenon that the sciences of man undertake to study.

The Self R is what ‘Leibniz’ called the pre-established harmony. The Tao. It is the encompassing unity in which and by means of which the macrocosm and the microcosm participate in each other and specifically by which the ultimate realities of the universe are expressed and reflected in the life of the human individual.” (pg 113)

Now with the above information one can grasp a better understanding of the archetype of the magical effect.  Also one needs to  understand  numinoisty.  I will call it a place of the supernatural.  The below quote describes the archetype.

When a numinous event occurs, therefore, it draws a large concentration of psychic energy around it. This energy constellates around the archetype symbol that is active as the effective center of the experience. A complex, or cluster, of psychic contents is thus formed at this point. As the energies available to the psyche are drawn together in one part of the psyche, the other areas are left more or less depleted. (pg 109)

The blend is genius

In conclusion I find this a very fulfilling exercise in trying to understand this experience. Archetypes are numinous and correspond with nature,  human beings and the universe. It is an all inclusive correspondence and we all have the ability to become aware of it and this helps me to understand better my place in the whole of the creative universe.  It is empirical and far-reaching and magical. The blend is genius.!!

A note on Helen Jewel and The Misfits

We went out of control!

Helen Jewel was a consistent staph worker on Flipside Fanzine during the 1980s. We met her through another friend through Pete Landswick. She lived near uptown Whittier in a second story funky apartment. She drove around in an old primer grey Porsche. She had a distinct style about her that was a bit on the Femme fatale side. At the time she worked at a local ceramic business and painted ceramic pieces. She was well-educated in the arts and literature and had a wild side. This is why, I guess, she hung out with us.

I remember when I turned her on to The Misfits. We just saw them live and interviewed them for an issue of Flipside to be published. She did not seem impressed at first, even when I told her all about the band. She was not easily impressed by others at all and told me once,

“If someone has the guts to insult me, I know they are my friend!”

The Misfits were going to play the Whisky A Go Go. I almost begged her to go. I told her,

“You just have to see them to believe them.”

She went. I will never forget the Misfits when they hit the stage. Glen Danzig was between two out-of-sight monsters of testosterone Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Jerry Only. Both with their Devilocks hanging down as far as Helen’s mouth.

There just are no words to describe how much fun these guys are to see live, so I won’t, but we went out of control!
