“Exuberance is Beauty”

William Blake

I can only gaze at the images of Blake’s work in a book, or on the internet … (maybe at times in a museum) and that will have to do.

I have been pulled into William Blake again. This means trouble because he takes me to strange places of my imagination… like no one else can. The game is light and shadow play, and it is real life. I am reading The Marriage of Heaven and Hell edited with introduction and commentary by Michael Phillips. It is good to have his writing placed in the context of history. Analyzing the why, how and who is important in understanding Blake’s work, but for me the real place is always the inward place of the imagination. We all have this place and all we must do is to use it.

This, for me, is the best place to start with understanding Blake’s work. He does get unbelievably detailed though and sometimes it does take a lot of study time to reveal his meaning.

I like this book of Blake’s because there are only a few editions of this work in the world. He did all the work himself. He is an originator of free speech with a fanzine of his own. Including his opinions of current events, his spirituality and esoteric perspective. He mixes it all up in a wild whirlwind of images and does not exclude nature. Heartfelt satire, humor and word play also splash the pages with words that are even misspelled. Re-created words run through his work.

Maybe this was since his hand wrote out each letter of this book. Who knows?

I find it refreshing and I think back on my days as an editor and publisher of an underground fanzine. To print it and get it out was a fast movement in documenting a growing scene. To me the message was more important than the grammar or spelling and the parallelism I draw from Blake’s work; as he is my mentor and teacher, and what we achieved on each issue is similar. He helps me, in a sense; feel relieved from criticism that I have received. That either consciously or unconsciously he is making a statement; He shows cleverly his intentions as in the statement from the Book The Marriage of Heaven and Hell:

Yes, the words “Improvent” and “Improvement” are the same words with the same meaning. Smart, what do you think? Something to ponder. This is what Blake does best he gets us to ponder, think and imagine.

I can only gaze at the images of Blake’s work in a book, or on the internet now… and that will have to do.

This next quote I have chosen is very current and insightful for our times. He also uses something I call “Nature Politics” in his work.

A layperson’s notes on the study of William Blake ends here but will continue in the future.

You think Occupy Wall Street is licked ?

The Five Rules

” 1. I shall never forget that, I the People, I am the government of my country.

2. The Senators and House Members which form the Congress are my representatives, I elected them to represent me, but not to pursue their own agenda or an agenda their party imposed on them. I elected them to be my faithful servants, and I shall closely monitor the quality of tasks they are doing for me, their boss.

3. I shall remind them by writing to them or calling them that I am approving or disapproving of the way they represent me on matters that are important to me.

4. I shall read and understand the Constitution of the United States including the Bill of Rights and I shall teach and explain to my family and children the wealth and beauty of this constitution and of Democracy.

5. I shall vote. Moreover I shall put voting as one of my top priorities in life. If I vote I am the boss of my government; I help lead the country towards the direction I think beneficial for me and my country. If I don’t vote I am of no help to my country.
Moreover, I am a parasite waiting for the other citizens to do the work to shape the country so that I can enjoy a democracy, without ever adding my contribution to the process.”

I think every US citizen should memorize the above five rules. This is what the Occupy Movement is all about. I agree that the re-election media saturation is not focusing on the Occupy movement now, but The occupy movement still is fighting the good fight ! It will always be there and just because the media does not cover it in the news does not mean that it is not fighting for the rights of the people currently.

As as an older woman who has put a great deal of her history into promoting free speech I hope that a younger generation will continue with this important point. Our rights as US citizens to protest against unjust polices that are running like monsters throughout this republic.

Corporations are not people, the Federal Reserve was not created by the people and for the people but instead by the wealthiest people for the wealthiest people. We are talking big banks, financial investors that play with big money like Texas Holdem Poker.

The Occupy Movement is the voice of citizens crying out for justice, fair-pay, women rights, gay rights and most importantly they are the cry of the watchdog who watches the government. Forcing the government to be accountable for its actions.  Good journalism once was the watchdog of government and big business. Now the people are doing their job. The Occupy Movement is made up of a country of citizens and maybe even your neighbors. Collectively as a people we are witnessing strength, bravely and action and I think we need to honor our friends that dare to fight this good fight called the Occupy Movement. I am proud of them!!

“Jefferson Smith: I guess this is just another lost cause Mr. Paine. All you people don’t know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for and he fought for them once. For the only reason any man ever fights for them. Because of just one plain simple rule. Love thy neighbor. And in this world today of great hatred a man who knows that rule has a great trust. You know that rule Mr. Paine and I loved you for it just as my father did. And you know that you fight harder for the lost causes than for any others. Yes you’d even die for them. Like a man we both knew Mr. Paine. You think I’m licked. You all think I’m licked. Well I’m not licked. And I’m gonna stay right here and fight for this lost cause. Even if this room gets filled with lies like these. And the Taylor’s and all their armies come marching into this place. Somebody will listen to me.” ~ Film, Mr Smith goes to Washington with James Steward.

Autumn…politics and music: Sweet peace is within my breast !

I sometimes think there are two Wagner’s in our culture, almost unrecognizable different from one another: the Wagner possessed by those who know his work, and the Wagner imagined by those who know him only by name and reputation.

~ Bryan Magee, Wagner Scolar

I am celebrating Autumn. I usually do this by listening to Tannhauser. I focus in on The Pilgrims Chorus in this opera. The music feels like autumn to me and contains within it the movements of this time of year.

In this particular piece of music I am slowly brought to a powerful center of my relationship with autumn. I am taken there by the crescendo which is a motif and  part of this music. It pulls me to a magical place.

I learned this chorus years ago by the occultist Corinne Heline. Her book, Color and Music in The New Age, first copyright 1964 by New Age Press , INC., is an interesting and mind altering perspective on esoteric Christianity, music composers and nature. Corinne Heline’s agenda is very clear.

I feel one can apply or superimpose what is in her book on any belief system.

When I speak of agenda I also refer to the music composed by Richard Wagner and how this song echos as a Nazi patriotic song that Hitler loved. Well thank goddess he was a human being.

I do not see it that way. Just because a person associates themselves with a particular opera or song does not mean that the same sentiment is carried on by another person.

I denounce Hitler and Nazism.

My focus is on my concept of nature politics and music. This is a continuity of dependable currents that tell us of a seasonal change within the world around us and within us, and it is happening now !

Atheism, Secularism, Christianity, all religions or belief systems in general, art, and the sciences can benefit by this music for the good of humanity and nature and beyond. This is my agenda.

I ask that you enjoy this music as an individual and hopefully it will inspire you to feel the current and spiritual nature of autumn.

Jenny Lens Punk Photographs

The women of punk rock may have to fight a lot harder to push their way in and Jenny’s photography needs to be proudly displayed in our musical museums as well.

If you are into the creation story of punk rock you have to view these images taken by Jenny Lens. The feeling from her pictures jump out at you and it is all about those crazy wild punks.

This is the root system of the LA  punk rock scene and beyond and it’s amazing history.  Jenny Len’s images yell out loudly about the  history of punk rock and the continuity of a music scene in general.

Fusillade no more !

A donkey with a load of holy books is still a donkey.

In eastern Libya an U.S. ambassador is dead.  The political machine is turning on this one and some have unsuccessfully used it to their disadvantage. This beautiful land of Africa on the Mediterranean Sea holds a deeply conservative Muslim nation. Ak-47s, Islamist militant armies, Ambassador Stevens and a film  “Innocence of Muslims”, all speak of hate and death. Then there is Morris Sadek Egyptian Christian Activist and Coptic man who embodies his war against the God of Islam. Joining his battle is Pastor Terry Jones a conservative Christian of Florida  who promotes this hate on September 11th by showing this film.  While the best of the best, Sufi Muslim Shrines,  are destroyed by religious extremists. The Majority of people who live in Libya are not hateful.  We need to remember this.

This beautiful fertile crescent is a historical place of war shed for extreme generations of time.  It is a love hate religious war. I wish we could gather up all of these extremists and put them on an island at sea and just let them kill each other off. The extremist Muslim, Christian and Jew seem to hate all the time. Truly my deepest wish is that they would just sit down and talk and learn to live together without all this childlike emotional hatred.
These religious traditions all are Abrahamic religions that come from the same seed. I feel now is the time to trace their generations back together.  Joining together in  their common religious heritage. Then drink and dance with the whirling dervishes. Healing the fertile crescent. Childlike spiritual emotional hopefulness works too!

Happy are those who find fault with themselves instead of finding fault with others.

Medusa

DSC00149

So often a culture can get caught up in an image for generations.

Medusa is one such image. A hideous woman with snakes coming out of her head.

This image is based on a popular Greek mythology.

Now I want to focus on the place where mythologies and archetypes blend. Taking another step, I want to focus on where archetypes and belief systems blend, and then finally to understand where a generation of false images are sustained to those who accept them.

This can create a vacuum of unconscious followers. I am one of them. It all came to an understanding when I read an article.  This article told a story about who Medusa was before she turned men to stone.  She was beautiful and Poseidon fell in love with her and they had two children one being the famous Pegasus.

The jealous Goddess Athena turned her into this hideous monster.  She wanted Medusa’s man.

I realize this is making a long story short but my focus is on the vacuum of unconscious images, mine being the one I held in my belly. One that my mother held in her belly. As women get older we all hold this in our bellies; this dark painful vacuum or Medusa the “peri to post-menopausal woman, or hag.”

Hidden also in this mythology is the cultural time of a matriarchal society destroyed by the Greek of sword and male God heads.

The time is now,  to wake up from the sleeping vacuum and reverse the pain. Medusa throws off her snakes and false image. Woman can work together and not compete.

I know her image now and it is not an ugly Gorgon. Her image is impressionistic it spirals out and up!

She is wide and deep. She is creative and terrestrial.

Multiple-synchronicities

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is ceres-001.jpg

The other night at the local Pub, Scotland Yard, my friend, an expert toxicologist, was talking about synchronicity. She seemed a bit frustrated about them. They were happening to her a lot and she did not know what to do about these experiences.

“What do they mean regarding to me?”

She affirmed many times that evening.

Telling me that many synchronicities happened to her in one day, one right after the other.

I spoke.

“You know you have heard about multiple orgasms? Well, when that many synchronicities happen in a few hours or minutes; I call them multiple synchronicities.”

The pub was loud, but she got the drift in what I was saying. These synchronicities are extraordinary experiences found in simple things around us that have symbolic meanings absolute to us personally. Now how can that be, that is just strange!

I was extremely interested in her conversation. I used to have a lot of such experiences. I was glad she brought it up, the subject, because I did not often talk to others about it. I found my answers in books. Carl Jung the Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist who founded analytical psychology; and the Medicine Wheel, based on the teachings of Native Americans, have both been major sources for me. They both teach us about synchronicity!

The medicine wheel looks at synchronicity as a coincidence. I was taught that coincidence has great meaning, and one should take notice of them. They are more than chance.

Jung refers to synchronicity as more than causality. Jung coined the term, and it was based on a visit he had with a scientific community.

Albert Einstein was in attendance, and he had an enormous influence on Jung. Jung seemed to need to incorporate this concept of synchronicity within the rationalist scientific community. The five senses are especially important yet there is another sense that needs to be included that was more than the usual idea of causality.

Recently I viewed the film, Forrest Gump. It took me many years to see the film. It was a highly published media movie. So, I tend to somehow reject this. Anyway, after seeing the film again I realized something. At the end of the film Forrest gives a wonderful definition of synchronicity.

“I don’t know if Mamma was right or if it’s Lieutenant Dan. I do not know if we each have a destiny, or if we are all just floating around accidentally-like on a breeze, but it is both. Maybe both are happening at the same time.”

The proof is found in an extraordinary way that the character of Forrest Gump lives his life. He lives a life of synchronicity.

To me the heart and the mind need to be at a place of balance and our insect antennae, like the intuitive praying mantis, need to be up and aware and open to a new type of living. Somehow this is when we are balancing experience with emotions and intellect. It is letting the feather blow around you and then grasping the notion that something special is being revealed just to you as an intuitive pat on the back.

This little essay is based on a night at the local pub that took place a few weeks ago thanks to a master toxicologist.

This entire process has led me back to Carl Jung and IRA Progoff and his book entitled Jung, Synchronicity, and Human Destiny. They have led me back to the I Ching. A book that gives one understanding based on ancient principles of synchronicity and Taoism.

Current Events: Lawmakers to start moving budget through Legislature

“Brown and Democratic lawmakers are in agreement on the approach to the tax plan, which would temporary raise the sales tax levels on the state’s tax and levels on the state’s wealthiest residents. They assume more than $8 billion in revenue from those taxes and anticipate extra cuts of more than $6 billion, mostly from K-12 education, if the taxes are rejected. “

~ Chris Megerian The Los Angels Times

Here we go money talk, I was thinking about how much money these same wealthiest people recently made in donations  to presidential campaign here in California. We are talking big bucks. I have grown sick hearing from people who say “no taxes” and government rip offs. In the above statement  it clearly shows me how the government has to force people to do what is right for the children of this state. Without taxes forced on them there is no money to educate our children. I am sorry but big business and the wealthiest people would not do it any other way. A governments most important element in its power, is in its service to the people. Also to the maintenance of what is created by the people. When these services are cut or put on the lowest part of the totem pole, it is sad. Welfare, healthcare and college financial aid must never even be considered in the equation game of government cuts. These services should be held high as a responsibility by us as the people to uphold and protect over anything else. Any sane person running for the presidency would take that campaign money and give it back right now to the states that gifted it to them. They would say, “Here this is for the people… this is for K-12”. Now, that is the candidate I would vote for. We are not taking sanity anymore..

I see that government is like a fine membrane. It’s function is to protect and serve the people. Kind of like a cell membrane, when healthy all is as it should be to sustain life. Yet, when cancer strikes ‘it is what it is’ and Wall Street is not interested in serving the kids or the people or paying for cancer treatments but it does not have to be this way.

The Armhole of Power..

I am not a big follower of Sigmund Fred but I must admit that he had a great understanding of culture, the unconscious and the shadow.  His argument is that when society is given a place of immunity, or a place to play without any moral responsibility, wild things will happen. Jiminy Cricket is not always hanging on one’s shoulder when it comes to the seduction of the dark side. This is in what it is to be a sexual animal that we are with the temptation to ignore any responsibilities that we hold dear to others. This is because we don’t think we will get caught! No one is perfect. My point being it is dirty politics to use this against people in power. Politics, the armhole of power, is a place that I am sure attracts untold stories of seduction. I don’t feel that this should affect the career or performance of a politician or anyone for that matter, for it is a family affair. As a friend told me recently, it takes two to tango.

Terpsichore

I hear the crickets debating at night

I hear the birds start their debates in the morn

In the papers and on the TV

Republicans and Democrats debating

with hate and scorn

Have you noticed that governments?

have come and they have gone

yet the crickets and birds

are still debating their charm

Let’s think too…

on their wisdom

as we should

the talk of power and life

and of reaching-in balance

So, take some time

Please take the time to listen…

Instead to the crickets and the birds.
